MY DOGS

I currently have two dogs, whose names will not be mentioned until next week, when the poll question has closed.

This is Dog number 1, he is probably around 6 right now, but I am not sure.  I got him from a shelter when he was around 1 or 2.  He is about 60 lbs and a rottweiler mix.  Dog #1 would go for walks every minute of his life if you allowed him to, but most of his time is spent laying on the bed in the guest bedroom and sleeping or looking out the window.  Beware if you are a UPS man, as soon as Dog #1 sees the brown truck he goes CRAZY.

This is Dog #2, Dog #2 is a fairly new addition, he joined the family in April.  Dog #2 is a Beabull, which is an English bulldog and beagle mix.  He is only 9 months old so he is still in the puppy stage, which means he likes to chew on whatever he can, including molding, comforters, Dog #1's bed, and the couch.  Overall he is well behaved and actually listens better then Dog #1.

Do any of you have pets?  If so what kind, and what are their names?  What kind of pet would you most like to have and why?  Respond to these questions by commenting, or creating your own blog.

5 Hip-Hop Artists not named Lil Wayne or Gucci Mane That you Should Listen To

Some of you need to expand your horizons when it comes to listening to music, because there is more to hip-hop than Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane.  Here are 5 current hip-hop artist or groups that you should take time and listen to, you might like what you hear.

1. Lupe Fiasco- Lupe is a Muslim from the streets of Chicago; discovered by Jay-Z.

2.  The Roots- I first started listening to The Roots when I was a junior in high school, and they continue to produce quality albums.

3. Talib Kweli- Talib just recently released an album with Hi-Tek, and also collaborated with Mos Def when they formed Black Star.  Hopefully we will see a new Blackstar album soon.

4. Mos Def- Not only is Mos Def a great hip-hop artist but he has also starred in some movies, most notably The Italian Job.

5. Big Boi (Outkast)-  Big Boi recently released a solo album that is very good, but nothing beats Outkast in their prime.  I recommended you start listening to Outkast on the regular.

THE GREAT FISH NAMING CONTEST OF 2010

Attention Students!! Ms. Jones and I have purchased 2 brand new goldfish for our freshwater aquarium. As of now, our fish are nameless and we need your help to come up with some awesome names for these fish! We are asking that each of you come up with 3 names for each fish-- that is a total of 6 names! For each name, you need to write 2-3 complete sentences as to why you think this name would be a good fit for the fish! And, YES, these names must be school appropriate!! Mr. Wiseman's fish is the black one with big eyes and mine is the multi-colored calico. Please be creative when coming up with your fish names!! Your assignment is to post your fish names and reasons for picking these names in your blog by the end of the day THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 30th!! On Friday, October 1st, we will be voting to pick the final names for our new classroom pets.

Fall TV Schedule

I know you are all interested in what Mr. Wiseman does with his evenings.  The answer to your question is a whole lot of nothing.  A few nights of week I have class, on Wednesday I play volleyball, I also hangout with my lady and my 2 dogs Rudy and Jake.  Other than that my time is spent watching TV, and lots of it.  In my opinion DVR is the second greatest invention ever (air conditioning being the first, MY ROOM IS 89 DEGREES RIGHT NOW).  The following is a list of shows I try to watch each week with a brief description of the show.

MONDAY
How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother is straight up funny, watching Doogie Howser aka Barney is enough to make my Monday night complete.

TUESDAY
Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy is AWESOME, its the story of a biker gang in California and their exploits.  If you have not seen it, WATCH IT and you will be amazed.

WEDNESDAY

I have been watching Survivor since season 1, and I cannot get enough.  Put 20 strangers on an island and craziness will follow.

THURSDAY
* Thursday is a big night of TV watching, DVR is a must

The Office

I love The Office, Steve Carell you will be missed after this season.

Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation is a show I almost gave up on, the first season was awful.  Reluctantly I tuned into season 2 and was pleasantly surprised at how much the show had improved.

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory used to be on Monday nights which was perfect, but CBS has moved it to Thursday, pushing my DVR to its limits.

Its Always Sunny in Philidelphia

Always Sunny is an unappreciated show, it consistently makes me laugh more than anything else on TV.

Grey's Anatomy

PSYCH, I don't watch Grey's Anatomy

FRIDAY

It's a movie night, everyone knows there is nothing on TV Friday nights.  Long gone are the days of TGIF on ABC.

Saturday
College Football

GREATEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!

SUNDAY (HBO Night)
Boardwalk Empire

Brand new show on HBO about Prohibition in Atlantic City.  First episode was last week and it was great.
BONUS- Be the first to comment on this page and define Prohibition you will receive a CANDY BAR.

Eastbound and Down

KENNY POWERS EARNS CREDITS!

The Week of September 7th.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend, and enjoyed your extra day off.  I spent my weekend moving my grandparents out of their home they have lived in for 50 years, needless to say that there was a lot of stuff in that house.  I managed to take some time out from moving to watch football and visit the Greek Festival, where I promptly ate my weight in gyros.

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT - Be the first person to explain to me what labor day is and why we celebrate it, and receive 5 extra credit points in the class of your choice.  Write your answer out on a sheet of paper and turn it in.

Last week we were unable to make our pennants due to lack of magazines, but this week students and staff have already brought in a variety of magazines, with that in mind we will complete our pennant projects this Friday, make sure that you are here.

Ms. Jones and I have a couple upcoming events in our classrooms.
     1.  A week from Friday we taking a stroll to Schiller Park in German Village, before you can take go make sure that you see myself or Ms. Jones for a permission form to leave school grounds, if you are over 18 you can sign it yourself, if you are under 18 you will need a parent or guardian to sign the form.  While at the park you will find a quiet place to read the book of your selection, once you have completed your reading assignment we can throw the football, shoot some hoops, or go for a walk around the park before we head back to school.  Last but not least, THERE WILL BE NO SMOKING DURING THIS FIELD TRIP.

SCHILLER PARK IS THE BOMB DIGGITY!!!

     2.  I am hoping to put student work, pictures of students, and recognizing FLA students by name on this blog, in order to this I need your permission, or permission from your parent or guardian if you are under 18.  See me for the permission form so we can recognize your AWESOMENESS online.

     3.  Soon your will be creating your own accounts on blogspot, so you can respond to my posts online, and eventually create your own blog.

     4.  Make sure to cheer on the Buckeyes this Saturday as they take on the criminals from the University of Miami.

SECOND POST OF THE YEAR!

THINGS!

1. We have almost completed 1 week of school and so far so good.  Walking around school I am impressed with the amount of work that is getting completed.

2.  If you work in my room starting today we will play some music during lunch, if you have a CD, bring it in and we can JAM OUT as you eat.  I only have a couple rules, the first and most important rule is, THERE WILL BE NO INSANE CLOWN POSSE PLAYED IN MY ROOM.  The second rule is, THERE WILL BE NO INSANE CLOWN POSSE PLAYED IN MY ROOM.  Also if I feel a song is completely inappropriate I will turn it off.  Today at lunch we will have a large serving of Ozzy Osbourne.

3.  Only a couple of you have brought in items to hang on the walls of my room, so far I have some artwork, a poem, and a bumper sticker.  Just remember to bring something school appropriate.

4.  On Friday we will be completing a pennant project.  You guys and gals will be creating your own pennants.  Dictionary.com defines a pennant as a long, tapering flag or burgee of distinctive form and special significance, borne on naval or other vessels and used in signaling or for identification.  This is a long definition that I do not even fully understand.  Basically if you want to see an example of pennant come into my room.  On my walls I have a Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, and Columbus Clippers pennant.  On Friday, you will be using markers, magazines, and your creative minds to create a pennant that represents yourself.

5.  On Thursday the college football season kicks off, with THE Ohio State University taking on The Thundering Herd of Marshall.  Make sure that you cheer the Buckeyes on, as they dominate the game.

6.  Have a fun and safe weekend.

Welcome Back

WELCOME BACK FOCUS SW STUDENTS!!!!!  If you don't know me my name is Mr. Wiseman, and I am a teacher at Focus Learning Academy SW.  I will be using this blog to give my students assignments, display their work, and share Focus news.

As you come in my room you will notice that the walls are almost empty.  For your first assignment I want you to bring in something that we can hang on one of the walls.  You can be anything as long as it represents you in some way.  It can be something you made, something you are proud of, a poster, or a picture.  Whatever you bring in MUST BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE, and something that you will not get upset about if it goes missing.  Also you need to write me a paragraph on why you chose to bring your object, and how it represents you.  Once you have brought in your object, and written your paragraph, pick a spot on the wall and I will hang it up.

I am looking forward to having a great school year, hopefully I see you soon, and OFTEN!

Mr. Wiseman
